Jomar Wright - Running Backs

Jomar Wright joins the Blue Hose coaching staff as the Running Backs Coach, while

Wright replaces David Crane, who took a head coaching position at Southeast Whitfield High School near Dalton, Ga.

Wright is no stranger to Bentley’s strong offensive system having been a member of back-to-back South Carolina 4A Division II state championships with Bentley at Byrnes in 2002 and 2003.

Wright will be in his first coaching position as the Running Backs Coach at PC, but he brings an impressive resume after a standout four-year career with the ACC’s Duke.

Wright concluded his four years with the Blue Devils with 122 career receptions for 1,638 yards. Wright’s 122 catches tied him with former Blue Devil Mark Militello for the ninth-most career receptions in Duke football history. Wright finished his career with three 100-yard receiving games in his career.

In the weightroom, Wright established a Duke record for wide receivers with 19 repetitions in the 225-pound bench press.

Wright concluded his senior season with 56 receptions to become the first Blue Devil wide receiver to post 50 receptions since 1999.

Wright’s best game of his senior season in 2007 came against Florida State. He caught seven passes for 141 yards, which included hauling in a career long catch of 65 yards from Duke’s own six-yard line. Wright concluded his career against rival North Carolina, corralling eight catches for 91 yards. He caught both of Duke’s touchdowns in their narrow 20-14 overtime loss to the Tar Heels.

During Wright’s junior season in 2006 he played in all 12 games with eight starting assignments. Wright brought in 40 catches for 561 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blue Devils in receptions. Overall, he ranked ninth in the ACC in both total receptions and receiving yards per game (48.6).

Wright enjoyed the most productive day of his career against Miami in week seven of 2006 by setting career single-game highs with 10 catches for 176 yards.

The 176-yard effort served as the top performance in the ACC for the 2006 season and equaled the 11th-best single-game performance in Duke history and marked the highest total by a Blue Devil since Scottie Montgomery’s 243-yard day against Vanderbilt in 1998. Wright had eight catches for 110 yards in the fourth quarter alone versus the Hurricanes with eight of his 10 receptions on the afternoon producing first downs.
Coming out of Byrnes, Wright was listed as the 16th-top overall prospect in South Carolina and the third-best wide receiver in the state by SuperPrep. He was an all-region pick by Prep Star magazine.

As a senior with the Rebels, Wright established a state single-season record with 103 pass receptions for 1,824 yards and 20 touchdowns. Wright clipsed the previous standard of 97 catches set by Kelvin Richardson of Byrnes in 1984 and Dutch Fork’s Michael Gasparato in 1997.

He helped clinch Byrnes’ second straight region championship by catching 10 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-24 victory over Spartanburg on October 31, 2003. Wright was selected to play in the Shrine Bowl after his senior season.
