Bobby Bentley has coached 6 Shrine Bowl/North South Quarterbacks. He is the only coach in South Carolina history to have 2 quarterbacks pass for over 10,000 career yards. Since 1993 in every year except two the quarterback that he has coached led their respective conference in passing yards and passing completions. His QBs own numerous national and state records in passing. He is one of only 3 coaches all time to win 4 consecutive State Titles and one of only 15 to win a total of 4 state championships.
Six of his high school quarterbacks have earned collegiate scholarships. He has coached 19 receivers who have earned collegiate scholarships.
As the head coach at Presbyterian College, the success continued with Quarterbacks. PC finished its first year in NCAA FCS under Bentley with a record of 6-5 and ranked third nationally in both passing yards and total offense. They set a school record for passing yards in a win over North Greenville when Tim Webb passed for 648 yards. The 648 yards passing by Webb in the Blue Hose victory over the Crusaders garnered the Lugoff, S.C. native national recognition. The passing yards would have been the FCS record, but due to PC’s transition into NCAA Division I the mark will only go down in the Blue Hose record books. Nevertheless, Webb’s performance was featured in USA Today, SI.com, ESPN.com and The New York Times. Webb, who finished the year with the best completion percentage in PC history at 73 percent, also passed for a school record seven touchdowns in the NGU game. The team totaled a program-high 795 yards in the win over Pikeville in September.
PC ended the year passing for an average of 347 yards per contest, while also racking up an average of 481.91 total yards of offense. As team, PC ended 2007 in the NCAA top 15 in four major offensive statistical categories. The Blue Hose were 11th in scoring in the nation at 36.80 points per game and 15th in the country in passing efficiency with a rating of 149.18. The Blue Hose broke three PC team game records, two PC team season records, three PC individual game records and two PC individual season records in 2007. PC finished the year with 5,290 yards of total offense to become the first team in school history to claim more than 5,000 total yards in a season. The Blue Hose also scored the most points in school history in 2007, netting 404 points in its 11 games.
