Record-Setting year on Offense at PC
The Blue Hose in their first year in the FCS and under head coach Bobby Bentley have broken three PC team game records, two PC team season records, three PC individual game records and two PC individual season records since Bentley’s arrival at PC’s Clinton campus in January of 2007.
PC finished the 2007 season with 5,290 yards of total offense to become the first team in school history to claim more than 5,000 total yards in a season. The Blue Hose also scored the most points in school history in 2007, netting 404 points in its 11 games. |

The Hurlin’ Hose were especially prolific in 2007 in the friendly confines of Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Blue Hose averaged 704 yards of offense per game in its three wins inside Bailey Memorial Stadium in 2007 and set a school record for passing yards in a win over North Greenville when Tim Webb passed for 648 yards against the Crusaders.
The 648 yards passing by Webb in the Blue Hose victory over the Crusaders garnered the Lugoff, S.C. native national recognition as it would have been the FCS record, but due to PC’s transition into NCAA Division I the mark will only go down in the Blue Hose record books.
Nevertheless, Webb’s performance was featured in USA Today, SI.com, ESPN.com and The New York Times.
Webb, who finished the year with the best completion percentage in PC history at 73%, also passed for seven touchdowns in the NGU game, setting the individual school record and tying the total for most touchdown passes in a single PC game as a team as he and Grayson Mullins (Columbia, S.C.) also combined for seven touchdown passes in the win over Pikeville on Sept. 8.
Webb’s record-setting day against the Crusaders was just one many Blue Hose records to go down at Bailey Memorial Stadium as the Blue Hose totaled a program-high 795 yards in the win over Pikeville in September.
On special teams, field goal kicker and freshman Cam Miller (Lyman, S.C.) set the bar high for himself over the next three years by concluding his first year in a Blue Hose uniform with the best field goal percentage in Blue Hose history at .777 (7-for-9).
Setting The Bar
In a year of many firsts for the Blue Hose with the DI transition, PC acquired many unique records in the 2007 season, including two receivers catching three touchdown passes in a single PC contest, which Larry Thomas and Terrance Butler were able to accomplish in the win over North Greenville.
The Blue Hose were also able to successfully incorporate many student-athletes into their plans as the Blue Hose passed the football to a school record 12 different student-athletes in a single game on two different occasions in 2007. PC also was able to allow a school record 12 different individuals to rush the football in the win over Chowan.
To further emphasize the use of Bentley’s spread offense the Blue Hose had six players catch a touchdown for the first time in school history against Pikeville in early September.
PC was also able to obtain its largest come-from-behind victory in institutional history against Coastal Carolina as the Blue Hose erased a 24-point deficit to the Chanticleers to acquire a 41-34 overtime victory over CCU in the middle of October.
Making Its Mark
PC Football claimed its first win as an FCS school against Pikeville at home on Saturday, Sept. 8. The Blue Hose followed that up by claiming their first win over an FCS school at NCCU in Durham, N.C. on Saturday, Sept. 29.
PC used the win over the Eagles to acquire its first NCAA DI winning streak, winning four straight, including two straight against future conference foes Coastal Carolina and VMI from Sept. 29-Oct. 20.
The win over VMI on Oct. 13 was PC’s first win over a future Big South school as an FCS institution.
National Notoriety
The Blue Hose finished in the top five in the nation in passing 10 times during the 2007 season and in the top 10 in the nation in total offense 10 times during the year.
The Blue Hose finished the week as the top passing team in the FCS four times during the 2007 season.
